Brew City Showdown Tournament Rules

  • Age Limit 18 years of age as of the start of the tournament.
  • Once the zamboni doors close, all teams will receive a 3 minute warm up prior to start of game.
  • Red line icing.
  • All games will play tag-up off sides.
  • Checking will NOT be permitted in any division.
  • Slap shots are allowed in all divisions.
  • Length of periods: 3 – 12 minute stop time periods.
  • All games ending in a tie will result in a 3 man shoot out. If still tied, sudden death shootout will be used, until one team scores and the other doesn't; players who shot in the first 3 cannot shoot until a team has used the entire roster in the shootout (even if the other has not). At that time both teams may start over with the first shooter. Visiting team shoots first.
  • Time-outs: Each team will be allowed one - 1 minute time-out per game.
  • Guaranteed 3 tournament games.
  • For all games, the team listed first shall be considered the Home Team, and will wear Dark jerseys.
  • Running time in the third period is used when there is a 5 or more goal differential. Should the differential go below 5, the clock returns to stop time.
  • Double rostering or substituting players allowed only upon approval by Tournament Director.
  • All players must be listed on your submitted roster in order to play. If someone plays that is not on your submitted roster or without approval from the Tournament Director, it could result in forfeiture.


  • Minor penalty: 1:30 minutes
  • Major penalty: 4:00 minutes
  • Misconducts: 8:00 minutes (Player expulsion for the game played, another player that was on the ice will serve the 8 minute penalty)

4 Team Round Robin

  • 3 points - to the team that wins the game within regulation time
  • 1 point - to each team for a game that ends in a tie
  • 1 point - to the team that wins in a shoot out

6 Team Pool Play
The total points from the 1st and 2nd games are used to seed the teams for the 3rd game. The overall standing from the 1st and 2nd games will be determined by using the point stytem

  • 3 points - to the team that wins the game within regulation time
  • 1 point - to each team for a game that ends in a tie
  • 1 point - to the team that wins in a shoot out

Tie Breaker

  • The difference of goals for and goals against, with the winner being determined by the greatest surplus
  • Total goals for (most)
  • Goals against (least)
  • Lowest total penalty minutes
  • Coin flip

No protests will be allowed regarding rules interpretations or judgment calls made by game officials. All decisions made by the officials during the game are final!

Team Conduct
Brew City Showdown officials expect the conduct of players to be beyond reproach both on and off the ice. Any game misconduct will result in immediate ejection from the game and possible suspension from the next game. Spectators should also be advised that the Brew City Showdown has established a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy in regards to abusive language and unsportsmanlike behavior towards opposing team players and fans, as well as referees, volunteers and tournament officials. Spectators violating this policy will be immediately escorted from the venue.
